Swap flaps and ailerons?

Post by Geowitz »

Stock setup has the ailerons longer than the flaps... Swapping them crossed my mind and I've seen mention of it elsewhere. I plan on using the Steve Henry sharp aileron leading edges which should help with authority if using the shorter set for the ailerons. Wing washout is consistent across the whole wing so should match either way as well. Thoughts on gaining flap at the expense of the ailerons?

You may want a larger ruder. I use a 4.5” deeper ruder, for my XL. Much better.

This swap has been successful on many Highlanders going back at least a dozen years. Steve Henry was an early adopter; he may have invented it. He said there's plenty of aileron authority with the swap; we can use bigger flaps.

If just enough is really good, then too much ought to be perfect.
