Replacement Bungees

Post by mansaj »

Are there specs for making the Highlander bungees for home fabricating, or do these need to be purchased direct from Just?

Unless you have the tool for crimping the nicopress sleeves you'll have to get them from Just. If you've never put on new bungees before it takes a bit of effort. DO NOT put something like a screwdriver through the loop on the end to pull with. The nicopress sleeve will slip making the loop too small to slip over the mounting point on the gear. I have an example I can take a photo of if you want to see. The easiest way is I found is to get someone to help. Pull/stretch the bungee over the bar and have your helper clamp it down with a padded clamp. Then reposition yourself, have your helper release the clamp, pull/stretch the bungee over the other bar and clamp it again. Repeat until you get to the end. I replaced my bungee gear with ACME Aero Black Max shocks. Shock Monster are also very popular. Both are heavier and a lot more expensive than replacement bungees but nobody that has put them on their plane would ever consider going back to the bungee gear.

Thanks for the response. Is there a general assumption of life span? I have heard 3yrs on certified a/c with part numbered bungees. There's no date markings on our, but I know them to be 2009 time frame. They have about 40hrs of service on them, and have been hanging on the wall for 15yrs. My assumption is they should be replaced.

It makes sense to replace them. They're not that expensive and why take a chance on getting stuck somewhere.

Post install Update . . . Re: Replacement Bungees

As of ~12/1/2025, a set of bungees is $240 from Just.

New set measured 53 1/2in overall length (old set had stretched about 6" past that)

We were able to install them drama free with two healthy adults tugging and clamping.

Also ordered and installed a new set of covers.

I suggest you remove the covers and check the bungees periodically, maybe every 5 hours or so. I had a set of those covers and one must have been whipping like a flag. It chafed right through one of the bungees. I didn't find it until the condition inspection. I replaced my bungees and tried a couple of different ways to secure the covers with no luck. I ended up taking off the covers and eventually installed Black Ops shocks.
