Wing root/flap close out

I've seen a couple of examples doing a search but I know there are other ways of doing this. How about some pictures of clean ways to do this?

I don’t have pictures handy, but I built aluminum “wedges” that fit close and riveted to the turtle deck. I also built a strip with an angle that filled in above the door and covered the first rib bottom capstrip. I riveted the aft end of those to the forward edge of the wedge.

No, I cannot easily fold my wings.

I did a mock up of something similar but had a problem transitioning from wing root close out to flap. SS has a thicker wing which makes the angles of the close outs different then the Highlander.

The top of my Highlander turtledeck is Lexan, and I simply extended it to fill that area. This simple technique only smooths the airflow over the top of the flap/fuselage junction. The underside is already aerodynamically dirty.

Cleaning up the air flow was only part of my motivation. What about the opening to the cabin from the aft spar area?

I haven't heard of anyone finding a way to close that up permanently, but a couple of builders have said they stuff rags in the opening for flight in cold/wet weather.

I've wondered if I could make some sort of fuel hose guide that would keep the hoses moving in a defined pattern through the butt rib. But I've moved any changes there to sometime after she's flying... or maybe on the next one.

See my second picture. I think this is what you are talking about. I made the “wedge” at the turtledeck and connected it to the filler plate between the door and wing.

I realize the SS wing is different, it should just take a little planning/compromise to get a decent transition from wing to fuselage.

I bent lexan pieces to rivet to my lexan turtle deck.
