Current Insurance Rates

Post by FredHoffman »

Just wondering what insurance rates others are getting. I currently self insure the hull and have liability only because I can't find insurance at a level I am willing to pay. I'm getting rates of $3000 per year to insure $60,000. That's with 300 hours in a Highlander. To me that seems excessive, but I have no frame of reference.

Hi Fred,
I'm paying $1,300+ per year for my Highlander. 350 hours in type. 1,200 hour private pilot, complex/high performance & tail wheel endorsements. No instrument rating. 3k does seem high.

Last summer I bought a 2015 Highlander with 912 ULS. I had 3 hours of tailwheel time (with an endorsement) and around 1000 hours total most high performance/complex. I could only find one insurer that would do any type of policy and it was over $3000 for full coverage. I did it for the first year, but won't do full coverage next year - it's just way to much money

To add to the discussion, my carrier was already insuring my Bonanza. They required 10 hours of dual in my Highlander and a tail wheel endorsement. The first year I paid about $1,600 and it has steadily gone down from there to about $1,300 per year now. PM me if you'd like my broker's contact and/or additional info. Good luck!

The only company I could find in Alaska for the Superstol is Avemco, nobody else would insure.
They quoted 4,400 per year for liability and 50,000 hull.
Almost 8,000 for 120,000

Damn...

Im with Avemco, started at $2500 for liability, 100k hull value. At the time I bought it, I was 9000 hours but only 100 TW so they made me do 10 hours dual in make and model.
Avemco has a few roll backs with experience, when I hit 50 hours make and model it dropped a bit and then again at 150 hours, currently at $2100.

Mine has gone up 24 and 27% in past two years currently at ~$2200 for 50k hull value - 1100 TT and 530 MM/TW. Was down to $1300 a few years ago. :(
