Wood prop refinishing

Post by danerazz »

Anybody on here refinish a wood prop? My biggest question is what kind of varnish to use. Any particular brand/type?

This will be for an in-service propeller.

Hey Dane, My shop partner is a Charles Taylor award winner. He has restored over 25 antique aircraft. The way he refinishes wood props is to mount the prop on a prop arbor (home made) and uses rattle can polyurethane. He gives the first coat or two a generous shot, then sprays for balance. I hope this helps.
