Re: Highlander 393
I called the factory over a year ago to ask Jak a bunch of questions. One of them was what brand off filler the used. (I had used Super-fill non my previous project) He said they used overcoat Z-Grip ($39 on Amazon). So I bought a can. Well, I didn't follow my rule, " Don't buy it till it's needed". There is a 1 year shelf life on the stuff, AND IT WAS BAD. The new can will be here Thursday

The same thing applies with most covering and paint products. Found that out the hard way also. Several cans of paint that separated and was to stiff to mix up properly. Contacted manufacturer claiming product deficiency and they asked how long it has been sitting on the shelf and the conditions. Had to pay for more.

I just blame it on Speel Checker on my IPad. Ever since I updated the software, my iPad has acted like it is possessed.

Bruce, I wasn't thinking drunk. "Challenged" was more like it. More RX1's powering Highlanders all the time. Looking really exciting. Sure hope the weather dries up soon. I would really like to plan that trip to Butler! My runway is probably solid enough because it seems to be well drained but I would really tear up the grass between the hangar to get to the runway . I already have mud all over the lower half of the CUB from the two times I did make it up flying. Joe B

Re: Highlander 393
I've just about got the shop ready to start building again. Since I went back to work (after surgery), Ive been installing a new engine in my Cherokee 180. My son and I have been flying around since, to include a trip to Boundary Waters Canoe Area for a 7 day adventure.
I'm just about to have the wings and tail feathers prepared to cover. For those that are using Oratex, AV6RPaul spoke about Chris Wallen using a different Aluminum primer. I called Chris today. He used a 2 part self etching primer from "Finish Master", called "Nason 2K". I sourced it locally, at $210 a gallon or $60 a Qt.
Chris said he scuffed up the AL and shot it. He said the Oratex adhered just fine.
Cheers,
Bruce

Just Another idea..I use the phone to take a picture of the days progress and email it to myself with notes and times.
Plan not to be the first at the scene of the accident!

Re: Highlander 393
Hi All, For all those that have used Oratex, I have a couple of Question. 1) Body filler, Since we are not painting the filler, how important is the smoothness and blending? I have some minor pitting after the first coat. Did you apply more than one coat? 2) Tailfeathers, Since the trailing edge and cross members are smaller than the main member; Did you adhere the fabric to the smaller pieces? Rib stitching would cause the same problem, a concave contour.
Thanks,
Bruce
Thanks,
Bruce

I think the flying stab would be even more powerful if the trim system moved the stab leading edge up and down rather than a tab on the elevator. After putting hours on my Highlander I want more elevator!

Re: Highlander 393
I agree Fred, much like the Cub Jackscrew would be nice! It most likely give us more topped speed as well. I think the is the problem with the SS. At least with older SSs. The stab is had a angle compared to the elevator in cruise.FredHoffman wrote:I think the flying stab would be even more powerful if the trim system moved the stab leading edge up and down rather than a tab on the elevator. Re: Highlander 393
I don't want to start a new thread, so I'll try to ask a question here first. How many of you have used the MGL full setup? I know that most of y'll use GRT EISs. Being a 787 and flat panel 767 guy. I'm very used to tapes and color dials on the EFIS. Monochrome numbers take me too long to process. Old brain. So here are my thoughts:
I'm thinking of using the MGL Explorer Lite 8.5 inch screen. It includes the GPS WAAS, AdHARS, Pitot/Static, Magnetometer, full engine EIS to a forward of firewall unit with only 2 data wires passing thru the FW. A remote VHF radio with intercom, and AOA. I would need nothing more on my panel.than the 8.5 inch unit.
Your thoughts?
Thanks. Gents,
Bruce

Re: Highlander 393
Thanks Shawn! A Few Question:
That looks like a 10.5 in screen
Did you need to use the iBox? From what I see you shouldn't.
Did you you opt for AoA/ If so, what Pitot/ Static system did you use? Will the AoA have aural cues?
My Panel will be similar to your's. You'll be able to see the bones around the side.
Cheers
Bruce
