Taller Tires

Post by planecrazzzy »

These are skinny and tall.
These measure 5.25" X 17"
.
I'm still looking into scooter tires , I see tall skinny and LIGHT .

I need a Bush type tire for my rough runway .
Those stock tires were gonna make it wanna nose over .
Just rolling it a little bit and I noticed it was easier now .
I bought a complete set , then swapped them out .
Now I can tear down the stock set for scooter tires ( if I find some I think will work )

I know that I don't like the drag of those ATV tires I see ...cheap , yeah ...but very draggy
With their height they get very wide .
.
Anywho,
Here's some pics

couple more pics.
.
So, Parasite Drag increases with speed .
I was using a simple formula to compare the mass being pulled through the sky.
My stock tires measured 5.5" X 14.5"= 79.70 sq inches
.
My new tires ... 5.25" X 17" = 89.25 sq inches

That's about 10 square inches more ... ALL in height ....2 tires ....20 sq in. MORE than stock total

.
One of the ATV tires , 7.1" X 17.6" = 124.96 sq in.....2 tires = more than stock by 90.52 sq inches

.
Nothing scientific about this comparison ...just simple math.

A simple test to find out just how much drag is "added"
Take a piece of plywood....9 inches by 10 inches....(90 sq in)
Another 4 inches by 5 inches for comparison... (20 sq in)
Put a handle in the middle of it...a piece of rope will work...
.
While someone else is driving... Stick this contraption out the window (at a slow speed)
Then tell them to speed up... maybe 5 mph at each stage...up to 60 - 65 mph...
Hold that plywood into the wind if you can...You will FEEL what it's like to drag that EXTRA
Width through the air.

Just a thought,
WHEEL PANTS would look like two Goodyear Blimps...The Led Zeppelins...
.
Gotta Fly...
.

PS since my new tires are more "rounded" my square inches are even less than my numbers .
The stock tire looks squared up more.
