Re: Highlander 393
I just installed the new the new Extreme Windshield. I took about 8 hours over 2 days. I want to give a huge shoutout to Richard "Sheepdog" Holtz! His, and Barclay Smith's product is superior quality. But best of all is Richard's instructions. They are the best "How Too" that I have has on this Highlander project. All that is left to do is disassembly trim and paint.

Re: Highlander 393
Hey Dane, I took a 90 day leave at AAL. So I'm giving the Highlander at least 3 hours a day. It is coming together very fast!
Cheers,
Bruce

Re: Highlander 393
I didn’t take leave from B6, but I have only been to work 4 days in two months. Even with the kids and homeschool killing me, I have gotten a tremendous amount done too. Just some carb adjustments, a bunch of fiberglass on the cowl, paint the wingtips and turtle deck, put the wings and tail back on and get it to an airport! Hopefully ready for inspection in July, if I can get one...

Re: Highlander 393
I am about the same point. I have a date of 17 June with the FAA, BUTTTT he hasn't answered his email since the day we talked. Only 3 DARs in Ohio. None within 125 miles. If they would come, It will probably cost a Boatload!
Cheers,
Bruce

Re: Highlander 393
I can only find one DAR listed in Maine, and her email is broken, so I don’t even know if she still does it. From what I am hearing, the FSDO is a mess and not doing inspections, so I have no idea what I’m going to do.
My father had an FAA inspector out of Cleveland FSDO do one of his inspections several years ago, good experience. Though I’m sure Columbus will be good too.
Speaking of the FAA, I had an error on my registration, sent an email to the registration branch in OKC, and they corrected it and sent a new certificate in less than a week! This was last week.
Anybody know how to get an inspection in the not-so-great state of Maine? (Couldn’t help the commentary, I hate this state)

Re: Highlander 393
Just spoke to the Burlington MIDO today and they said they were more than happy to do it, but they are 4 months behind and I would be at the bottom of the list, so winter-spring. Sounds like $1200 to get it done sooner.
Side note, I have had a few interactions with the FAA recently; they were very fast at getting my registration, I had an error on it and they fixed it in about 5 days (including mail time) and the Portland FSDO was really helpful and actually had the Burlington MIDO call me, and even though they are backed up they sent me a bunch of guides and forms and offered any help I may need.
They have been great to work with, too bad about the virus stuff.

Re: Highlander 393
Well the day has come! After 1 false start ( Name of builder of data plate must match EXACTLY the Registration!!!!!). The Highlander had Zero gigs!
So just 5, no 10, NO 15 closeout items to complete, and 1st flight. Maybe early July.
Oh I forgot. .093 Lexan in "Un-ubtanible" So the old Turtledeck will be used until I can get the heavy stuff.

Re: Highlander 393
What did the inspector want to see? What were their sticking points or items of focus? What did your documentation look like as far as receipts and build log? Was the data plate issue a first-name-last/last-name-first thing?
I bet the part they liked the most was the flap springs!

Re: Highlander 393
Oh! Thats Funny. He was intrigued by the springs. He had never seen that setup before.
Let me be transparent; I'm an FAA designee for the 787 at AAL. So, I understand how the FAA roles. Even with that, dotting the I's' and crossing there T's' was huge to my inspector. In reality, he wanted all of the paperwork to pass muster incase of a mishap and the insurance balked at the clamp. Good for HIM! If anyone wants a "talk on" call me. It's easier to explain it on the phone. Like Jac at Just!!
Cheers,
Bruce
