Re: If you were curious...(radial power)
Well, it is my thread, I was just showing what I did. It doesn’t ALL have to be about the engine!
Anyway, mine were just to stop dropping stuff under the seats, not really storage, though small stuff would be fine, like sectionals (whatever those are).

Re: If you were curious...(radial power)
Hi Dane,
The under-seat trays have been very handy to have. I built mine with them a little deeper at the front rather than the back, mostly to keep things from always sliding to the back when operating on bush wheels. It's not much of an issue on floats. I find it's a great spot to keep a couple of pens, notepad, cotter pins, zip ties, small diagonal cutters, small vice grips, and a small coil of safety wire, etc. I have also found by sliding the passenger seat back a couple of notches, it's a great place to keep a bottled water or can of pop standing up and within easy reach. There's certainly enough space to keep a few snacks handy during long trips too. You'll be very glad you put them in the plane!

I hadn’t even thought about most of those uses, those are great ideas. Even with the taper I put on them I think I could use them for everything you listed. One thing is for sure, it really “finishes” the area. Looks much better.
I’ll be honest, I built them the way I did because it “looked right” to me at the time.

Starting to look like an airplane.
And the all-important flap springs.
And I swear the fact that the N-number shows up so well with the wings folded was a coincidence.

Re: If you were curious...(radial power)
Weighed my plane, here is what I’ve got:
Totally empty fuel.
R-main: 383lbs. -7.875”
L-main: 385.5lbs. -7.875”
TW: 65lbs. 170in
Total weight: 833.5
CG: 6.0” AOD
18lbs of fuel in 3-gallon header at 62”
165lb. Pilot puts CG at 9.0” With 10lbs in baggage at 65”
Probably going to put 5lbs. in the tail to allow a lighter pilot and eliminate the baggage requirement.

Re: If you were curious...(radial power)
It’s about time!!
Moved to an actual airport today. Thanks to Sam Canders, who owns the field, and Jason, who helped me move airplanes around. I now share an actual hangar (not my garage) with a champ and a pietenpole.
I HAD a great picture of the plane in the back of a flatbed truck, but somehow it ended up just being of my driveway.
The move was stressful, as I COULD NOT GET HULL COVERAGE as outlined in the insurance thread.

Re-weighed: 841#, final weight
Finally have the cowl on!
I need bigger tires, they just don’t look right.

That is about right, I started with it based on this photo, and adjusted to make it both easier to paint (I hate paint) and not make it look like I was trying to just copy a paint scheme.
That one is very similar to what I started with!

Re: If you were curious...(radial power)
Quick update: as of about 11:30am today, N16814 is officially an airplane.
Now I just need to get back up to speed on taildraggers and then first flight.

Re: If you were curious...(radial power)
The tape on my arm is holding the bandage on over my elbow burn I sustained doing something stupid too close to a hot exhaust! Otherwise I am pretty happy! Yesterday was my birthday, so pretty good present to myself.
