Congrats! Hopefully I’m soon. Seems like a lot of people are using their time off the last few months to make some progress!

Re: SuperStol XL Alaskan
Lexan bends very well in a sheet metal brake.
Just be sure to use plenty of extra radius on the “fence”

Re: SuperStol XL Alaskan
Thanks, I was meaning what did you register it at? 1550 or higher? I've seen another XL that was registered at 1750 I believe. I was curious if there is anything different to the framework of an XL besides the 2ft extension to allow that 1750 number? I believe the wings are identical (unless modified). No extra bracing or upgraded hardware?BDA wrote:Thanks

Re: SuperStol XL Alaskan
There is some beefier tube in the nose for bigger engine.
And larger wire for tail, but that is all from the factory as I understand it.
I registered it at the 1750 because that is what all of Just’s stuff says.
But
I will be building heavier struts and landing gear to go with the extra wing, so I will test with more weight after that.
I heard from a “friend” the XL will haul much more.
I was playing with the weight n balance spreadsheet and The Aft CG envelope looks like it will allow 2,350#, if you put alot of weight in the front seats.
So we will see.

Re: SuperStol XL Alaskan
First Flight is done!!
Was very nice flight.
Took off out of my hayfield easily and flew to the local airport for test flights.
Flew straight and level, had to add some nose up trim to lighten the stick.
Slow flight was really slow but rock solid.
Slats came out at 38 knots
Drug the tail down the runway and touched down tailwheel first,
Nice and easy, half flaps.
The big wing is AWESOME!!
Tomorrow the fun begins!!

Re: SuperStol XL Alaskan
Well,
I have half fuel and 50# of sand in bagage for now, not trying for short at all yet, but, there was a breeze right down the runway yesterday and I was off before the throttle was in or stick pulled back.
The big wing is amazing.
Climbed out at 30 indicated, was at 1,000 feet by first ramp.
