Make "Flush" rivets - Invented

Post by planecrazzzy »

I priced Flush Rivets ( Pop )

Holy Cow... 14 cents EACH ( Or more )

I thought I'd try an experiment...

I drilled part of a hole in a piece of steel....

This should match your counter sunk hole .
(Sharpen the drill bit @ 100 degrees , so the rivet matches the kind you buy.)

In the plate steel ,... one hole was 1/8" for the size of the rivet to settle into place.
(This part needs to fit the rivet SIZE being used... yours may be 3/32"...or 1/4" ? )
I slipped a Stainless Steel pop rivet into the Holes ...
The bigger counter sunk hole was going to reshape the rivet...( Sharpen the bit angle ? )
.

Then I drilled a hole "Through" a piece of round stock...

After the rivet was in place on the lower die... I slipped the round stock onto it.... gave it a tap.... walla... instant flush rivet...
.
.
Later, I made the lower piece from the same round stock...

and gave it two flat spots , to hold it in a Vise...

Now... I have Flush rivets for about 2 cents each...and fast
.
Gotta Fly...
.
PS For other sizes... You only need to make the lower Die...The Whammer piece is Universal..
Ok...it's not really a "Wham"... More like a FIRM tap...Very easy
