(14) Firewall ( Mike )

Post by planecrazzzy »

Hey Guys,
Just a few Pictures on the process of my Firewall...

Since a lot of people like it... I'll try to explain a little about it.... it's easy to do
.
.
First , I made it from 24 ga Stainless Steel.... ( .024 )

I trimmed it to size before putting the pattern on it  ( Engine Turning )

I made a grid that measured 1-1/8" squares....

My Scuff pads were 2 inch.....   This way , I didn't wipe out the next row of marks...

One row , you center where the lines "Cross"...

Next row , you go inbetween where they cross....

"MY" project... I went from right to left....

It doesn't matter if it's from left to right....But which ever way you start...

That's the way it needs to be done , the whole way....

The Bottom Lip was bent first... Then the firewall was put into position...

Then the holes were marked with a transfer punch...

Holes were drilled... then the Firewall was bolted in place to check

where to make the final bends on each side , and the top...
.
.
After the final bends and checking the "fit"

The top corners of the Firewall were welded and cleaned up...

Last but not least , this picture shows how I tilted the firewall forward...

Also... I made it an inch taller on the whole radius...

This will help slope the windscreen more... Less drag

and I like the way the Tailwinds look that use this technic

Thanks Sean,
This is what it's all about... Taking an regular piece of material , and making something special...

But this design has it's good points.... Hiding Dents , scratches , and dirt...
