SuperSTOL Flap Springs?

Post by Clark in AZ »

What is the current wisdom on cutting the SuperSTOL flap spring? I've read many posts about this and some leave it as is, others cut anywhere from 1/2" to 1 1/2" off. Here's a couple of pics of my springs...

My overall length is just over 8.75" and the coils only measure just over 7.5".

So, how are you measuring the amount to cut off? Overall width, just the coils, a specific number of coils, or some other way?

How are you cutting it?

How are you bending the end once cut?

Has anyone sourced a replacement spring of an appropriate size and strength?

For those that have cut the stock spring, would you do anything different if you had to do it over?

Thanks!

I cut 1.25” off mine, its not enough, will cut again.

I measured 1.25 on the coils and made a mark, then abrasive cuttoff wheel to cut the coil.

Then pliers to make new loop.

Dont be gentle.

Thanks! I'm leaning to 1.5" on the coils. I know it will be a PITA to do but it should make a big difference.
