Who wears ALL their clothes when flying?

Post by BDA »

Little cold today,
Gonna have to seal up all those gaps.

Has anyone been able to seal it up?

Someone posted on the Facebook Just SuperStol and Highlander Pilots and Owners group, how they closed the aft wing root gap, it was molded in fiberglass fairing.

I went for a flight to get some good fuel burn figures, and burned a whole tank of fuel.
But I couldnt feel my feet when I landed.

Heater is working pretty good, I can feel it blowing heat, but it just gets sucked out of all the open holes.

Time to winterize.

I cut a piece of lexan to cover the holes in the root rib, and a smaller piece to plug the pneumonia hole by the rear spars.

The gap around the front spars was increasing the speed in the wind tunnel by my head, so I cut a foam doughnut that was a tight fit to the spar.

Flight today (18*) was almost pleasant. Now to direct the heat toward my feet!

Well, I finally fixed the wind tunnel effect!!

After sealing every possible crack and hole with lexan and weather seal tape, I still had WAAAAAY too much COLD air blowing down the back of my neck.
So I put weather stripping under the back edge of my turtle deck and duck taped the hole around the tail shock
And ITS GONE!!
Its almost warm in there!!!!!
Still gonna wear my coveralls but I dont have to worry about frostbite anymore, and it doesnt take 4 hours by the fire place to recover!
I am so happy!!!!
