Molded Windshield

Post by Saddler »

For anyone interested in a molded windshield, Jeff Rogers from Airplane Plastics is making molded windshields for the highlander and superstol. He made a mold off of my airplane and is now producing them. The fit and quality is excellent. It is made from 1/8” SC15 which is UV blocking. The only pictures I have right now are of mine but the protective plastic hasn’t been removed yet. I will get some pics once I get the plastic removed.

Jeff’s company Airplane Plastics makes all of the canopies for Van’s Aircraft and many others. The quality is outstanding. Give them a call if you are interested.

Looks nice! Does he do one for the newer "Extreme" windshield?

Thanks,

I wonder how close of a fit it is for the previously available molded windshield, it would be nice to know there is a replacement available.

The original molded windshield is what this mold was made from with a couple slight modifications. I’ve had both in this airplane, they fit exactly the same

Good job, and thank you!

What is the angle difference from highlander to Superstol?

Here is a pic with the windshield completed minus sealing the edges. Windshield fits really nice.

As far as the difference between the highlander and superstol, I’m not sure. I think the superstol windshield is a little longer. This molded version is long enough for the superstol.

Is this more "substantial" than the stock windscreen, or is the upgrade simply the UV blocking (which is of course quite valuable in itself)?

The Highlander and SuperSTOL use the same windshield shape. The difference is in the height of the windshield bracket because the SuperSTOL uses a thicker wing. This means that the windshields are trimmed differently, but the base windshields is the same for all the Just aircraft.

The Lexan provided in the kit is .090", whereas the acrylic windshields are .125" thick.

The polycarbonate windshield material supplied with my kit is .060. My kit was produced in 2011 so Just Aircraft may have changed the thickness for newer kits.
