Re: Superstol Inboard Flap Belcrank
Just a reminder when bolting the flap brackets to the spar bracket, the bottom bolt has to point “away” from the control rod or it will interfere.
Yes - I learned that the hard way, and no its not in the drawing.

Re: Superstol Inboard Flap Belcrank
Those bolts have an awful lot of thread sticking out, and looks like “L” washers. I would at least put full thickness washers in if not drop a bolt dash number. You don’t want the nut bottoming our on the shank before it applies proper clamping force.

Dont forget to install a large area washer to the outside of the rod end bearing in case the rod end bearing fails.BDA wrote:Flap control rod

Re: Superstol Inboard Flap Belcrank
After installing my flaps with stock rollers with the springs cut 1" shorter, I am not happy with how they work, rollers are rough. I had a couple that weren't drilled right, and all my attempts to fix just made them worse.
Soooo, I am going to recut the springs and install Billy Paynes roller bearings.

The bearings on the flap tracks really work well. It makes the flaps super smooth.

Re: Superstol Inboard Flap Belcrank
Ok
How do these bearings go in?
Drill plastic washers out?
Ad new plastic ones?
How many small washers to get width right?
And how in the world do you get all those washers lined up to force the bolt through?
I think I have spent more time on my hands and knees looking for washers than anything else.
Need some help here
* yes I did sand the bolts to a different size first so they will fit thru bearings.

If your using Billy Payne’s bearings there is no Plastic washers used, he has a video on you tube just for this...BDA wrote:Ok

Re: Superstol Inboard Flap Belcrank
Don’t quote me but by memory it’s a thin washer on each side of bearing, then the large area washer on the outside of each thin washer, then a regular thickness normal diameter washer, then one side the flap rod end, then small regular washer after rod arm, then large area washer, then small normal washer then nut. I used stainless locking foreceps, fine fine nosed needle nose pliers, large tweezers, picks, pimple popper tool...you name it to get them in. I have taken the bolt out a time or two after I had all washers and bearing in by clamping the whole issue with small needle nose vise grips. An old school builder told me once “if you have enough patience you can feed a kitten a gallon of milk with a shringe lol!!

Re: Superstol Inboard Flap Belcrank
The locking stainless forceps are a godsend but once the large area washer is in place the foreceps can’t get in, that’s when I used the tweezers and hold your tounge just just right, I have only done it with my wings in wing rotator and flaps pointed at sky and leave flap spring off until you get all 4 bearings/ washers/ bolts in. I also put a towel in between the flap and spar to get the flap away from spar a bit. Don’t forget to sand the inside edges where the bearings roll on. I thought of crazy gluing some of the washers together but never did...when the nut is on the washers must spin freely.
