Highlander Roll?

Post by av8rps »

Hey guys, there is a great new video on Youtube that shows a Highlander doing a nice roll while out booney bashing with his friend flying a Kitfox. I thought it was pretty cool so thought I'd share it.

Oh, and check out all of Trent Palmers videos as they are all great if you love back country flying. And if you like them consider subscribing to his channel so he makes more cool videos for all of us to enjoy.

Ty is an incredible pilot who I've had the privilege to fly with. He's a multi-thousand hour Ag pilot form the Boise area. A real great bunch out there...

After seeing him so much in Trent's videos I feel like I already know him. Seems like a super fun personality. It was cool you got to hang out with those guys Larry. I'm guessing you're probably planning your next trip west as we speak (with your new bushwheels?)

We have our own version of what Trent and Ty have out in NV/CA, and Steve H. in ID. It is a little more redneck, we call it "Ohio Bush Planes"! You can go to Youtube and VIEMO and search OBP and you will find a wealth of redneck flying that will tickle your craw. I'll list a few on my faves below. Suffice to say Mr. Swingle is a bit eccentric. I'm sure that you "uber veterans", on the list, remember when the "OBP" boyz invaded Walhalla. "Ya'll have fun out thar, ya hear"!

Yeah, Greg and the Ohio Bush Plane boyz do some really fine videos too. I like Greg's fun style. He's another talented guy, just like Steve and Trent.

I really appreciate all of those guys doing videos of back country stuff as that seems to have a great impact on the enthusiasts and wanna-be aviators, so much that they want to get a license and a plane so they can get involved too. I don't know how we would measure that, but it certainly has to be helping to get some new people involved in aviation. Something badly needed.

There hasn't really been anything before that would make me want to fly wheels over floats, but now I have a set of 29 inch AK Bushwheels, an extreme gear , and an 11 inch tailwheel for my Highlander. So I might just leave my Kitfox on floats and booney bash a bit with my Highlander to see what the hype is all about. :D

I would agree that Ty is a higher skilled pilot than most. But these are fun, capable planes. I've rolled and looped my Highlander, my Avid Flyer, and my Kitfox floatplane (which I spun too), and there wasn't anything difficult about any of that (and I have only 30 hours acro training in a Pitts S2). The only difference is that no one ever video'd my antics, so when I saw Ty do it I thought you might enjoy seeing someone do it.

My disclaimer: A Highlander is capable of mild acro, but was probably never designed for acro. So be very careful if you decide to acro-test pilot your plane.
