I covered the bottom and the right side. You can go the Facebook "Better Aircraft Fabric" and see vids about the cover. Here are some pix of the baggage area, ELT set up, and the right tool for the right job. I Love Oratex!!!

Thanks Max!

The covering is finished!!!!! The task that I dreaded the most, is complete. I hate tasks that take months  I'm too ADHD. That is why I chose Oratex. I had only a few issues in the process. The biggest was the Steinel heat gun. The one that I purchased from Better Aircraft Fabric was a 2010 model. I tested it and covered everything up to the last large piece on the left fuselage with it. I had the temperatures all dialed in. BUT it started to malfunction to Amazon prime delivered a new 2020 model the next day. Of course my ADHD ass did test it and went right to work. Max cam over to help and was the first to notice that something didn't look right. THAT gun was a lot hotter for a selected temperature. So I now have 3 burlap looking tiger stripes on the left side where I was trying to shrink out the last large wrinkles. It's starting to get cold here in the Midwest so I'm moving the fuselage to the heated part of my Barn/Hangar today. Both of my titanium firewall and carbon fiber instrument panel arrived yesterday from McMaster. I'm flying out to Nampa ID early next month to pick up my Engine from Steve. Can't wait!

Cargo door almost done.

Hey. do any of ya"ll thin I can shear the .20 Titanium in a Harbor Freight 32" in. metal shear? We'll see.

Cheers,
Bruce

Congrats! Nice job. I'm helping a friend cover his Kitfox with Oratex. It's been quite a learning experience which will come in handy when I start covering my SuperSTOL in the next few weeks.

Thanks Shawn, and Clark! Oratex is the process for the inpatient! Thanks Max for your help. Your are a great friend. If any of you want to cover with Oratex, contact me. There are many differences, but I will never cover another aircraft with another process.

Cheers,
Bruce

Are you using anything to seal your bagage door?

I'll probably use a thin rubber window sash molding. That is what Chris Wallen used.

I'm not a Facebook fan,,,,,,BUT there is a lot of info to STOL aviation there. Most of us that are here are there as well. Steve posted there that he and Cathy are on the way to High Sierra (Burning Man for Pilots!! 17-20 Oct) for the STOL Drag. Cathy said that she would update the Just Aircraft Highlander SStol Facebook page if there was cell service. If so I'll retweet it here. If someone else has any info, please start a new thread and let us know any news!

Cheers,
Bruce

Did I read on this forum that Just sent out a new build manual on CD? Was it SuperStol only or was there a Highlander version?

Thanks,
Bruce

This was on the Highlander/SuperSTOL facebook page but I thought I'd add it here for those who are not FB folks. I Ripped my meniscus again so I'm laid up in my house for a bit and I think I'll "add to my story".

When Steve Henry put the RX1 on his Yee Haw 5 or 6.....I can't keep track..... I thought "cool" but it still doesn't address the dual carburetor issues on the Rotax. Then the next year he built the next Yee Haw and put the Apex fuel injected engine with a SkyTrex gearbox (which turns the prop in the correct direction). I called him as soon as I saw his post. I inquired if he intended to provide a fire wall forward install, and he said yes. He found me a "Sled" with only 98 miles on it soon after. A year and a bit later (when I was ready) this came to the farm:

It was 1:21 from delivery to install on the Highlander. Thanks Steve!!! All is going well. By the way Steve and Cathy are great hosts! I flew out to see my engine on the test stand. After they took me dancing..... Have you ever seen Line dancing to "I Can't Get No Satisfaction". Mick would smile.

Cheers,
Bruce

Well It's been a while since I've updated this thread. I started my engine for the first time since I've installed it,(Steve of course test ran it at his place). I installed the MGL engine sensors to the firewall side MGL RADC (only 2 data wires go through the firewall). Steve Henry's Yamaha Apex Firewall Forward worked as advertised! When I connected all of the circuits from Ian's schematic, I was skeptical that all would work. It was perfect!!! Thank you both for a plug in installation. So here are my install photos:
