Please share exactly how you were able to heat shrink and get that much tension.
I was not able to do that.

I don't think I did anything special. I just put the fabric on as tight as I could to begin with, hardly any wrinkles and stretched tightly to begin with. Then I did a couple of slow passes stepping up the heat each time finishing at 170C. I think if you stretch the fabric on to begin with then there is a lot more shrink available when you start shrinking if that makes sense. Anyway, it warped for me so I definitely think you can bend stuff if you're not careful.

Apparently this stuff wont stand up to gasoline and wont stand up to water unless covered by glue.

Are you talking about the XIM primer?

I dont have any experience with it, but polyurethane should stand up to both of those ?????

When I clicked on quote the pic did not attach but from what Lars said it’s not going to be gas resistant like epoxy primer. I’ll have to find what page of this thread is was on again.

On the subject of warping, both my rootribs are warped on the bottom.

Factory tells me a rib stiffener should have been installed to prevent this. I reviewed the section 29 titled getting the wings ready for covering that spans several pages and saw nothing that refers to this.

Hoping this helps the next guy.

Here’s what the factory said: “We are working on getting this into the manual. The stiffeners go inboard on top and bottom of rib#9 *Inboard on bottom of rib # 1 and out board on top of rib#2. this last one is trimmed as with the pic.”...I just realized this a few days ago myself after I saw pics on Chris Wallen’s Facebook build pics. I’ll attach the pics the factory sent me with that reply.

This is a Good Find!!

Thanks for posting!

Maybe should start a new thread just for this so it is easily searchable or thumbtack to the top.

Or better yet we nee a thread for updates to the kit that has them all in one place.

Does anyone have a list of all of the updates?

My Superstol Rudder with Black back coated Oratex 6000, with tapes I made from 6000. Made from one piece seam at front, and the finished seam edge on this side. Going to rib stitch yet and add aluminum 1/2 moons @ control horn at bottom with a Oratex Doilee over the Aluminum. And will also be adding seaplane drains on it yet.

I will be scuffing these aluminum pieces, and priming them and then I will attach them with Super Glue then I will apply two layers of glue on the top side of the Aluminum and place a Oratex Doilee over it. Any concerns/comments welcome I’m just doing what some friends suggested and I checked with Lars about it.
