Lumbar Support / Firestar

Post by planecrazzzy »

Hey Guys,
On short trips , it doesn't bother me ...But on my longest
Cross Country ( 400 Miles ) ....Well, longest so far...

I noticed that I needed a little "lower back support"..I used a towel once,
but it didn't really work very good.....

While I was at work....I was sitting in the break room one day....
We have the office "OLD" swivel/rolling chairs.....

I noticed this "Bulb" hanging from the chairs....
They have a bladder inside , and the bulb will inflate or de-flate it....

Man, do they got those things GLUED in there.... I put a couple of holes in it because I was trying to get it out without pulling off the back of the chair.....Which I had to do anyway.... Holes are fixed now...

Well, I'm gonna have "Lumbar Support" in my Firestar.....Cool

" Little Details"

Last Picture

The bulb has a piece of velcro in the form of a "Tag" it can be stuck to some Velcro that I have on the back of the seat...
I'll still be able to grab it if I need to...

You never cease to amaze me with some of the innovative solutions you come up with.  This is just another example of a great idea!  Kudos!

I just wish I could use some of your ideas on my Cessna 152 without needing a form 337 and FAA engineering approval...

Guess I need to get back to working on my build...

Updating an old thread...
The rubber bladder was fine.
But the rubber line coming out of it rotted..
.
I have been going over the plane to lose some weight...
The bladder was dead weight.
.
Hmmm, I have different bubble packing from deliveries.
I ended up trying a group of three air compartments.
.
I "Popped" the outside bubbles and used them to "Tuck" between the wood and foam.
.
The wood had been already smoothed out...
but for this thin plastic..I had to buff out a scratch that felt sharp.
.
After bolting things back together , I see the "Buldge" looks like the Bladder that was originally used.
This is lighter , hope it lasts.

Gotta Fly...
.
PS I know it looks funny.... Just a bag stuffed in there.
putting it in the area , it finds where you need support automatically.
