starting to build a vision....help

Post by mikey127 »

Is there anywhere I can go to get to information on this construction methods used in building a vision. I'm torn between the vision and a kr2s. I would also like to use either a corvair/subaru(ej22) for my powerplant. I like the vision, but there seem to be few completed planes flying at this time. Is there someone that maybe I could talk with that is building one so I can get some insight about the construction.

Contact Steve Rahm at www.visionaircraft.com. I Like these two sites too for getting an idea of the building process:

The KR uses wood encapsolated in glass cloth and the vision does not. How many boats have I worked on that a minute crack let water in to swell the wood and crack the glass farther letting in more moisture to rot the wood and hold the moisture in and grow the rot. Airplanes use fabric glass fiber and resin only and it is for strength. Boats can afford the weight of fiberglass chopped mat to try and seal their surfaces, aircraft cannot. Wood should remain open with drains to dry or be sealed with heavy fiberglass mat, as in wood boats on there external surfaces only. So many boats had one or two keels of heavy timbers encapsolated in fiberglass rotting out having to be removed and foam placed where the wood was and many glass layers added to the sides and top added to do what the wood beams did new.

Having a boat and aircraft back ground,I can safely say that water should not be an issue with aircraft, unless you plan to fly in rain.A thin epoxy coating on wood will prevent water intrusion into wood.
Fly for excitement.
Ride for freedom.
Drive for chores.
