hmmmm a Corvair forum

Post by N74DV »

I sure hope this Corvair forum gets popular. These forums are so much better than email lists.

so... here's my first post.

I have a '65 110hp in my Aircamper. Engine has 15hrs on it on the test stand. Is now on the airframe and firewall forward is about 95% complete.

here's a shot of it when I had the Aerocrab on it.

a Stromberg NAS-3A1 with the larger venturi. Have yet to run it with the Stromberg. Hoping to do that in the next 6 weeks.

See - I told you it was good! Great to see your photos again. Keep up the good work and I look forward to hearing about how the engine runs with the new carburetor.

Post by jdavis2a »

I just joined the group. Looks impressive so far.. I Currently fly two aircraft with a Corvair. A Pietenpol completed in 1995 and a Davis DA-2A completed in 1987. Looking forward to further discussions.

Why did you switch from the aerocarb to the stromberg? I was thinking of using the aerocarb on my build.

lots of issues. the main reason was the sticking throttle slide. It would stick horribly. That could be a fatal issue if trying to add power on a go-around and it sticks.

Also it never seemed to be tuned right no matter what needle I tried.

It would drip fuel too... just not a good carb for my application. The VW guys love them and they probably work great on a VW, but for my Corvair I was not satisfied... I'm a bit of a perfectionist though.
